What is PE and Sport Premium?

The PE and sport premium is an allocation of additional funding from the government provided to schools to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary aged pupils, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. This funding is based on the number of pupils in years one to six.

How is PE and Sport Premium spent?

It is up to individual schools to decide how the PE and Sport Premium funding will be spent. At Atlas Academy, we recognise the importance of health and activity in young children and their families. We have looked at our school data and tracking analyses to decide on how we allocate our funding each year, taking into consideration outcomes from best practice. All schools are accountable for how they have used PE and sport premium funding and are required to publish, on their websites, what funding has been received and how the money is being spent.

How have we allocated PE and Sport Premium at Atlas Academy?

In deciding how to spend our PE and Sport Premium, the school’s priority is to focus on improving pupil’s access to regular, high quality and active PE provision. We have therefore prioritised spending against the following areas:

• improving equipment that pupils can access;
• improving access to active play and sport for all pupils, both within and outside of the curriculum;
• improving the teaching of PE and sport.

In doing this we consider not only the requirements of the national curriculum but additional enrichment activities that will increase pupil access to regular exercise. We expect our outcomes to support behaviours for learning; school attendance and family/ pastoral work we carry out.
